Bays Kids is a steadily growing non-profit that needed an extra hand for its small HR staff. The organization has roughly 150 employees who provide services to at-risk youth and families. The team steadily needs to meet consistent hiring quotas to support their excellent work.
Bays Kids has a small three-person HR staff. Before Qualifi, they were limited to back and forth interview scheduling.
The HR staff at Bay Kids can screen more candidates than ever before.
The human resources department consists of three people responsible for 10 times as many recruitments and new hires each month. Heidi Lacy, Vice President of Support Services, HR, and Training at BAYS, notes that staffing is increasingly difficult due to COVID-19.
“So obviously being nonprofit, we run lean, mean and lean, I like to say,” says Heidi. “So I don't have endless financial resources to be able to have a team of recruiters… I usually try to find things that can help that with my team because sometimes we can't afford [to hire more recruiters].”
Heidi attended a conference and found Qualifi. With an on-demand interview platform, the Bay Kids team supported their staff member who schedules and reviews the first stage of the hiring process.
Qualifi changed the way that Bays Kids managed its hiring cycle. It was a struggle to find enough time to schedule phone screenings and conduct them quickly among the three-person staff.

Now, one staff member can take on 90 percent of the recruitment for the organization. “Now she reviews all the resumes, sends phone screens, reviews those phone screens, and sends assessments,” says Heidi. “Then the hiring manager doesn't come on until these are your top candidates and these guys are good to go for phone interviews... So because the old-fashioned way of scheduling phone screens and actually conducting them is very time-consuming.”

When Bays Kids decided to test out Qualifi, they started with just one job posting. “We tried one job, and we loved it,” says Heidi. “We're like, so we uploaded all... We were like, nope, we're all in. We don't need to wait. You know, it was so easy to do and track… It's definitely helped with efficiency a hundred percent.”

When asked how the team would respond if Qualifi was removed from their tech stack, Heidi says, “Mutiny. They would be like, what are you thinking?”
